[FUNDAMENTALS] Don’t Waste Time On Track — This Is What You Should Be Working On
Achieving your goals in motorsports becomes much easier when you know exactly what to focus on and understand the process for continuous improvement.
Look at any other sport and you will find a clearly defined, step-by-step process to reach your goals. Achieving those objectives, however, requires discipline and time. In martial arts, for example, the journey from white belt to black belt might take a decade or more of consistent training. So, when another driver or rider simply suggests you should “push harder,” “be more aggressive,” or “trust the tires will stick,” be wary of what I call “quick-fix syndrome.”
I get it: Jumping in with a quick fix feels good at first. But turning a blind eye to the root cause always—and I mean, always—leads to frustration and a hard plateau. In my 30 years of coaching both drivers and riders at all levels, from novice to professional, I’ve witnessed firsthand time and again that focusing on the root cause of the problem ultimately leads to incredible success on the racetrack.
