[FUNDAMENTALS] WHY AN EVALUATION IS THE FOUNDATION OF SPEED AND SAFETY
The best don’t guess. They know exactly what to work on
At the sharp end of motorsports, everything matters.
In qualifying for June’s Grand Prix of The Netherlands, less than seven-tenths of a second covered the first 10 MotoGP riders. That same weekend, at the Austrian Grand Prix, the top 10 Formula 1 drivers qualified within nine-tenths of a second.
When the margins are that small, guessing isn’t an option.
After every session, professional teams evaluate performance, identify what is holding back the driver or rider, prioritize the greatest limitation, and build a plan for the next on-track opportunity. It’s a continuous evaluation loop all based on one goal: winning.
What does that have to do with your next track day or club race? Everything.

While you may not have a crew of engineers analyzing every lap, the process should be exactly the same. Without an individualized evaluation loop, you’re guessing. You’re hoping for a better outcome instead of deliberately creating one.
