ANNOUNCING: The Motorsports Fundamentals Masterclass
The Masterclass is a new format of track school and online coaching for performance rider and driver training, offered in partnership with track day providers around the country.
If you follow me on social media, you will have likely seen recent announcements for Masterclass schools with 2-Fast Track Days in Washington and Precision Track Days on the East Coast. Two more are also on the docket with Rocky Mountain Motorsports Park in Calgary and Carters@theTrack. (You can check out the full 2024 schedule here).
I’m very excited to be officially announcing this new program, which I’ve designed with two primary goals in mind. The first is to make high-level performance training with individualized coaching and development more cost-effective and accessible than other schools currently on the market. For two all-inclusive days (and more total time on-track), the Masterclass is priced only slightly higher than a standard track day. The second goal, integral to my mission in this sport, is to professionalize motorsports coaching through the standardization of training fundamentals and methodology. Track day providers who host Masterclasses invest in their own coaching programs by getting their instructors trained in the Order of the Sport.
Any track, any conditions, any vehicle, anywhere — doesn’t matter. When you have the confidence to perform at your highest level no matter these factors, there is no better feeling. Many people in motorsports wrongly believe that this isn’t obtainable, and it’s easy to understand why, given the old-school attitudes to coaching and development compared to other professional sports. In both the car and motorcycle worlds, there is a huge lack of consensus around training methodology, standardized techniques, processes, or even a common glossary. Interest in motorsports coaching is exceedingly rare, even at the highest levels of racing and competition. This is largely due to the fact that motorsports has historically been seen as an ‘art’, with success attributed to ‘raw talent’ rather than the development of finely honed techniques. As a result, progress in our sport has stalled, with many riders and drivers wrongly assuming that there is no clear pathway to improvement and that they simply aren’t good enough to do it.
As I have seen time and time again throughout my career, this thinking is a complete myth. Motorsports, just like any other sport, relies on specific fundamentals, processes, and skills that can be trained and refined through practice to meet your goals. With the right commitment, tools, and education, anyone can learn to be a competent rider or driver and see their laptime drop. The Masterclass is designed to show you the process and methodology to achieve this and will help you build your own personalized program based on your goals and skill level, whether you are a novice, racer, or an instructor.
The video below introduces the Masterclass in greater detail; I go over my motivation in creating it, what you can expect from the program, and my 2024 partners. I’ve also added a Masterclass page to the navigation bar with information about the program and an updated 2024 schedule with registration links.
Ken, as a student of the sport, if I attend this class how much would it help me improve vs just reading all the amazing material you have in the substack?
